I am running for AC Transit District Ward 4 to bring reliable and cost efficient transit service to Hayward and the surrounding Unincorporated Communities of Castro Valley, Fairview, Ashland, Cherryland, and San Lorenzo. As it stands, several bus lines have been cut making it hard for residents to get around town. For example, residents in South Hayward used to be able to take 1 bus to Chabot College — now it takes 3. Moreover, often bus routes are canceled by dispatch without any warning to the ridership because there are not enough bus operators in South Alameda County, often referred to as South County.

Currently, AC Transit has an annual budget of approximately $500 Million Dollars per year with around 52 Million Riders annually. This means AC Transit spends approximately $10 per ride per fiscal year — we need more effective transportation for members of our community.

In contrast, MUNI in San Francisco has a budget of approximately $1.25 Billion Dollars per year with around 250 Million Riders annually. This means MUNI only spends approximately $5 per ride per fiscal year. Furthermore, this figure does not include fare evasion which is rampant — bringing the true value per ride down significantly.
